Why Legal Masters Degrees Matter

The National Legal Masters Association helps law schools, graduates and employers raise the awareness and profile of legal masters degrees and degree holders, and their contributions to the legal industry.

Legal masters degrees are known by a variety of degree titles, including Master of Legal Studies (MLS), Master of Jurisprudence (MJ), and Juris Master (JM) programs. are post-baccalaureate degrees focused on applied legal knowledge in specific subject areas.

Graduates work across fields such as compliance, contracting, human resources, healthcare, financial services, and regulatory affairs. As legal and regulatory complexity increases, organizations need professionals who understand law deeply but operate outside traditional attorney roles.
